Cholera was confirmed in Moroto district on May 12 by the acting District Health Officer Charles Onyang Omuudu after seven out of the eight samples tested positive. The acute diarrhoeal disease spreads through the consumption of contaminated food and water.
Also affected is the price of sugar which is now sold at as high as 4,000 Shillings, up from 3,300 Shillings at the beginning of April, and maize brand which has increased by 400 Shillings from the initial cost of 2000 Shillings. Other essentials like cooking oil have recorded an increase by 500 Shillings.
It targets organized business groups involving women and youths mainly in the informal sector is meant to uplift the economic status of communities by reducing poverty at house-hold level. It’s also aimed at enhancing socio- economic transformation from subsistence to market oriented economy.
Medium trucks will pay breaking fee of 350, 000 shillings for limestone up from 150, 000 shillings while the trailers will be charged from 250 – 500, 000 shillings. The same vehicles will further pay loading fees from 100, 000 to 200, 000 shillings depending on the size of the vehicle.

Moroto has been under livestock quarantine since January this year, following an outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease. But this week, a number of herdsmen brought cattle to the market, claiming that they had secured permission from area leaders to sell off the livestock despite the quarantine.
The land measuring only 0.1170 hectares, according to records from Moroto Municipal Council is located along Lopeduru Road in Nakapelimen village next to Lopeduru Central Market construction site. It also borders the new Moroto Catholic Cathedral Church construction site.
