Statistics obtained from police indicates that Arua city recorded 418 domestic violence cases, 112 defilement case, 3 indecent assault cases and 10 rape cases last year.
Over the past three years, banana farmers in the districts of Nebbi, Arua, Zombo, Maracha, Terego and Arua City have been battling with the disease, which causes severe stunting and bunching of banana leaves and complete loss of fruit production especially in the second season of production.
The fire, which started at around 1:00 am on Friday morning, reportedly started from a cooking stove before spreading to other shops. Preliminary reports suggest that a shop attendant, who was cooking at night, left a charcoal stove unattended after falling asleep, which sparked the fire.
