Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, the Minister of Health who also doubles as the Lira City Woman MP, said that although people think such a disease is no longer common and therefore place less emphasis on it, bilharzia is one of the tropical diseases, which still affects so many people across the country.
Moses Chemonges, one of the residents told URN that they will only open the offices after the interdiction or transfer of the town clerk and the CDO. He said that they are ready to torch the offices should the officers force their way in.
During the meeting, the officials noted that there are over six million nationals from the region working abroad. They noted that the workers face similar challenges such as lack of access to health care, delayed payment or non-payment of wages, physical torture, mistreatment, confiscation of personal and travel documents, sexual harassment and long working hours.
Triggered by a lack of nutritious food and repeated bouts of disease – such as diarrhoea, measles and malaria – the condition, also known as severe wasting has been listed as one of the conditions that compromise a child’s immunity.
