The charcoal valued at 112,500,000 million Shillings were being transported from Adjumani District via Amuru enroute to Busia Sofia Marker in Busia Town at the Uganda – Kenya border. The incident happened between December 2019 and January 2020.
Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson, Patrick Jimmy Okema disclosed that the victim’s mother revealed that the alleged kidnappers called and demanded 400,000 shillings to be sent to the victim’s contact before he is released.

13 people have been arrested in the past two weeks in separate incidents. On 25th October, nine people were arrested from Gazi village by Uganda Wildlife Authority – UWA rangers and taken to Openy Jiji prison in Adjumani.
Wilson Acuma, the leader of Apaa residents, says the suspects were arrested by officers from Adjumani central prison and taken to Openjinji prisons without recording statements. Anthony Akol, the Kilak South MP has promised to raise the matter with the judiciary, top UWA and Police officials to expose how their personnel are conducting their duties.
