In November last year, Sheik Balinda, the Imam of Madina Faizan Mosque in Lira City led a group of Lango Muslims who defected from the Old Kampala Muslim Administration. He was then appointment the Assistant Supreme Kadhi of the Greater Lango Muslim District Administration.
Brig. Okoya who was Uganda Army's Second Infantry brigade commander was shot dead along with his wife Anna Akello Okoya at his home in Koro village, then Gulu District, now Omoro District.
In his message, Sheik Balinda promised to respect his top leadership and to work in line with the rules and regulations of the Kibuli Muslim Administration. He called for Unity among all Muslims saying it is time they put all differences aside and focus on development.
