Byabakama's explanation follows a letter written to him by members of NURDP querying the manner in which the name and the leadership of their party had changed. The members questioned the entire extraordinary delegates conference allegedly held on 14/07/2020 and attended by only 51 unverified members out of a delegate’s member list of 400 delegates.
When asked whether the Police will not use this to deny candidate permission to hold campaign meetings, Byabakama said, this will not happen because during the time of elections, the Public Order Management Act which the police uses to regulate meetings, doesn’t apply.
The move comes days after parliament approved a proposal for affirmative action to the elderly which will see them represented in Parliament by five legislators, voted on a regional basis. One of the seats in ringfenced of women.
