The station witnessed a heated argument between supporters of Juliet Wanyana and Aisha Namutebi who are contesting for the NRM flag for the position of Woman Councilor in Nakulabye parish, Lubaga division.
Mathias Kasamba, the NRM’s Director for Mobilization argues that the majority of the petitions are largely a result of deliberate conduct of election officers who through collusion, abused their powers to mess-up the process, saying that the party must get rid of such characters if they are to have a clean exercise.
The angry voters said to be supporters of John Robert Esaru, one of the candidates for the Soroti East Division Mayoral NRM party ticket turned violent accusing his rival, Abdul Latif for ferrying voters to the polling station to vote in his favour.
According to Kasasira, the suspects were ferried from Sheema, Mitooma districts, Kafunjo, Nyamukana, and Ruhaama, and Kajara. Miria Mirembe, the Ntungamo District NRM Registrar, says there are 6000 registered voters in the municipality but the number suddenly increased to over 50,000 people.
While the presiding officer was discussing with the police officers who had just been called to restore order, the area chairman, a one Bukenya Remegio stormed the meeting dismissing the outcome of the polls. He insisted that the zone did not have more than 600 voters as indicated on the declaration forms.
