Addressing journalists shortly after the meeting, Captain Mike Mukula, the NRM Vice-Chairperson for Eastern Uganda, said that the decision to source for another flag bearer follows the performance of the 2021 candidate who fell far below the expected mark. When asked about the NRM Constitution, Mukula said that they will speak to Ekemu before making a final decision.
The Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakam, says that Egimu will continue with the other electoral activities like presiding over the ongoing women's council election but will step aside during the Soroti East by-election.
On Tuesday, the Court of Appeal upheld the High Court judgment nullifying the election of Moses Attan as the Soroti City East Member of Parliament. The Court of Appeal Judges Cheborion Barishaki, Stephen Musota, and Christopher Gashirabake also ordered Electoral Commission to conduct by-elections for Soroti City East.
The petition was filed by Anne Ameco and another on grounds that the election was not conducted in accordance with the principles laid down in the provisions of the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, the Parliamentary Act, as amended and the Electoral Commission Act.
The affidavits were rejected by Achayo’s lawyers on grounds that the witnesses presented varying signatures and that they lacked certificate of translation. The lawyers also argued that while the witnesses claimed to be illiterate, some were able to read and write and also comprehend English, which is the official language of court.

On Wednesday, Justice Wilson Masalu Musene overturned his ruling and reverted the two Aloet and Opiyai wards to Soroti East Division basing on the affidavits from the Local Government Minister Raphael Magyezi.
In Wednesday’s judgement, the same judge reversed his decision on grounds that the November judgement was based on wrong documents. Justice Musene reversed his decision basing an affidavit by Local Government Minister, Raphael Magezi.

The application is seeking review of November 26th, 2020 ruling where Justice Masalu reverted Aloet and Opiyai wards to Soroti City West Division. The wards, that were initially in Soroti City West during creation of Soroti City were moved to Soroti City East Division. The application is also seeking to nullify elections of Soroti City.
In Soroti district, the Return Form for Transmission of Results Woman parliamentary elections had 2,618 votes above the presidential score of 64,937 valid votes while Serere district had 2,019 votes above the presidential tally of 75,276 valid votes cast for all the eleven candidates.
The Commission Spokesman, Paul Bukenya said they declared Achayo after adding votes from eleven polling stations that had missed when Abala was declared. Abala will not any of this, saying he is already consulting his lawyers to petition High Court over the matter.
The MP is aggrieved by the ruling of Soroti City boundaries that put Aloet and Opiyai wards to Soroti City West Division. According to Ariko, the two wards were in Soroti City East Division but erroneously annexed to Soroti West Division, something that caused him victory.

Patrick Okiror, a Candidate for Orungo Town Council LCIII seat said that voters asked him for transport to reach the polling stations. Okiror is worried about the outcome of the polls since few people will now determine the next leader.
Up to 8:00am, some of the polling stations in Soroti City had not opened the ballot boxes. Similar situation was recorded in Mukono and Buikwe in Central Buganda, Ntoroko, Kabarole and Kyenjojo in Tooro sub region, Luweero, Masaka, among others.
This election, which marks the final national electoral activity under the Roadmap for General Elections 2021, is expected to take place in 2,190 Sub Counties, Town Councils and Municipal Divisions, located in 135 districts. There will no elections in the 10 cities and Kampala Capital City.
The District Registrar, Musa Oroma says as the ruling party NRM, is holding its primary elections for contenders vying for the party's ticket for district chairpersons (LC-5) ,City Mayors and councilors across the country, in Soroti City the elections have been called off as results of the delayed demarcations of the city electoral boundaries.
