IPUs Women in Parliament 2015: the Year in Review released this evening ahead of International Womens Day on 8 March, shows that for the second year in a row, the number of women Members of Parliament MPs across the world rose by a worryingly low 0.5 percentage point. Women now account for 22.6 per cent of the worlds MPs.
The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah has said that the House will decide who between him and Parliament Speaker Rebecca Kadaga will chair next year's debate on electoral reforms after Opposition questioned his impartiality.
Members of Parliament have disagreed with Speaker Rebecca Kadaga over her decision turning down a petition to recall the House from recess. In a letter dated January 17 2012, Kadaga tells the legislators that she could not recall the House because the petitioners had not fulfilled the requirements of Article 95(5) of the constitution on the same.
