As part of the guidelines issued ahead of the resumption of public transport, the Minister for Kampala Metropolitan Affairs Betty Amongi said taxi’s should maintain a distance of at least two meters from each other while loading in the parks. On top of this, every taxi should have a handwashing facility, while every occupant is expected to have a face mask.
The two-bedroom houses with a sitting room, kitchen, servants' quarters and a store that were built out of hydra foam bricks have now become inhabitable as their ceilings, windows, walls, veranda and roofs have run-down.
Hundreds of taxi operators converged at Old Kampala Secondary School and Kitante Primary School on Wednesday to register with the Authority, secure route numbers and colours ahead of the return of public transport on Thursday.
The five include the Chief Justice Bart Katureebe, the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) David Muhoozi, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Martin Okoth Ochola, the Commissioner General of Prisons (CGP) Johnson Byabashaija and the High Commissioner of the Republic of Rwanda in his capacity as the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps.
