The gangs are reportedly backed by a number of politicians and Community leaders determined to counter the law against Female Genital Mutilation. Over one hundred girls have been forced into FGM in Kween District.
The landing site was closed following several warnings by the Fisheries Protection Unit commander for Kalangala Innocent Abaho. Abaho and other UPDF soldiers raided the landing site and found more than nine fishermen with illegal fishing gears hidden in the temporary structures.
