Preliminary investigations indicate that Ekou asked VHTs to sign a payment voucher reading 150,000 Shillings but only gave them 97,000 Shillings or less. Most of the affected VHTs are from Kachumbala County in the sub counties of Aligoi, Kachumbala, Kamuge and Kongunga, among others.

Joseph Lobot, the Amudat LC V chairperson, says that he will not tolerate civil servants who promote corruption. "Not under my leadership, how can you be an agriculture officer claiming to be a journalist? This is unacceptable,” he said. The officials did not name the implicated civil servants.
According to reports, Opong returned from a drinking joint in a nearby trading center at around 9:00pm on Sunday and started assaulting his wife using a panga, leaving her in a critical state before he took off.
Geoffrey Okiswa, the Resident District Commissioner of Bukedea says the officer was arrested because of professional negligence and laziness.
