According to Zainabu Namuyindi, the Elgon Region Police Community Liaison Officer, the operation targeted individuals smoking shisha at various nightclubs, including Club Elitajia, Pear Bars, and Rooftop, among others.
The fire, which started at around 1:00 am on Friday morning, reportedly started from a cooking stove before spreading to other shops. Preliminary reports suggest that a shop attendant, who was cooking at night, left a charcoal stove unattended after falling asleep, which sparked the fire.
The deceased have been identified as Hildah Ariago, 45, resident of Onyakai cell, Soroti City West Division in Soroti City and a 16- year- old juvenile, Joyce Mary Iwuno, a pupil of Idupa Primary School in Serere District.
