Four assailants reportedly approached the two brothers who have been mobile
money agents in Wairaka trading center masquerading as customers only to rob them unspecified sums of money before shooting them dead.
The guns were recovered from Buwekula Ward, in Northern Division following a series of joint operations led by the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence-CMI, flying squad, and crime intelligence officers attached to Kiira region territorial policing area.
Kiira rehional police spokesman James Mubi says the exercise of expelling the commercial sex workers will involve partnerships with village chairpersons, who shall identify their hideouts and notify responsible police authorities to take action.
Fred Muganza, a resident of Kivubuka B village in Jinja City Northern division, says that on December 31st, 2021 while armed with AK-47 rifles, the suspect surrounded his vehicle, grabbed his two phones, and an unspecified amount of money.
Magoola had earlier on fled into hiding when some motorcyclists attempted to lynch him for selling old motorcycle spare parts but failed to mention his suppliers raising suspicion that the parts are from stolen motorcycles. This prompted detectives to launch a manhunt for the suspect leading to his arrest on Wednesday night.
The operation was triggered by the increasing cases of motorcycle theft within Jinja city. It is reported that, in the past one month, eight cases of motorcycle theft were registered along the different highways connecting to Jinja city’s central business area.
A detective privy to this matter told URN on condition of anonymity that Opendi revealed that Mbasa was coordinating a racket of street children who use pliers and other sharp objects to pluck number plates from vehicles normally parked along streets for long hours.
Jayesh Patel, who lost his motorcycle, says that he is surprised how the guard failed to stop the robbery. “I woke up ready for work, only to find my motorcycle missing, I didn’t hear any scuffle between the guard and the alleged robbers,” he said.
He says that although the robbery took place on Sunday night, he had been convinced by the Managers at Mansion Hotel that an in-house search would help them recover the money without the involvement of the police.
