The Kingdom Spokesperson, Charles Mwanguhya Mpagi, says told URN that since the national constitution guarantees the right of all Ugandans to own property, the same constitution doesn’t dictate from whom and who can acquire such property.
He said he would oust King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV from the main palace in Harukoto within a period of two months and requested the Batooro to rally behind him in a pursuit for change in the kingdom.
In the letter, the elders who include ex- members and current members of the Tooro Kingdom parliament, the Orukurato, the kingdom\'s clan council and former Kingdom Ministers, unanimously agreed with members of the royal family to oust Oyo from the throne. Notable among the elders are former kingdom regents Isaya Kalya and Zaverio Byabagambi.
Members of the Tooro royal family are pushing for a vote of no confidence in King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV for allegedly abdicating his kingdom duties. On Saturday, close relatives of King Oyo including his paternal uncles and aunties met in Kampala to push for a change in the monarchy.
The more than 300 youths under their umbrella, Amacumu ne Bitara set off this morning from the kingdom headquarters at Mucwa, in Fort portal town. The youths who included boys and girls started walking at 9 30am. With three days left, the Kingdom Palace, the Karuziika in Fort Portal town, the venue for the wedding reception, has been given a facelift. The ritual houses, Obuju bwâ€™emirwa, at the palace have been renovated and the royal platform, Omusanga, where the King sits during functions has also been painted and tiles fixed.
King of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba has petitioned the UNHCR protesting the continued relocation of Congolese refugees to Rwamwanja in Kamwenhe district. King Oyo says that Tooro Kingdom is the rightful owner of the land.
