The Operation Wealth Creation OWC seed distribution programme will receive close to 300 billion shillings in the financial year 2017/2018. The government also under a pilot project plans to provide fertilizers to ten thousand households using subsidized electronic vouchers at the cost of 14.6 billion shillings.
Finance minister Matia Kasaija, while delivering the 2017/18 budget speech in Kampala, says efforts are being made to increase the per capita income from the current 773 dollars to 1,039 dollars, the threshold for lower middle income status.
Minister Kasaija has allocated Shillings 300 billion to pay off domestic arrears. Kasaija says international reserves by end of 2016 stood at three billion dollars, equivalent to 4.2 months of import of goods and services.
