Controversial Makerere University researcher, Dr Stella Nyanzi, has called for careful consideration of the Mental Health Bill 2014, saying the bill could be used to target Ugandans over claims that they are mentally ill.
Members of Parliament have started considering the Mental Health Bill, 2014 that seeks to provide for care and treatment for persons with mental illness at primary health centres. The Bill currently before the Health Committee of Parliament chaired by Dr. Micheal Bukenya, also seeks to provide for the admission, treatment and discharge of persons with mental illnesses from health and mental units.
