Masaka municipality health department conducted a mass immunization exercise on June 2-3, to combat the reported measles outbreak in the area. However, the exercise was shunned. According to the exercises report, only 7,717 turned up for immunization out of a target of 22,626 children aged between 6 months and 5 years.
Musa Maberi, the Municipal Health Officer, says that out of the 22,626 children between 4 months and 5 years in the municipality, only 7,718 turned up.
Cases of measles have been reported across the three divisions of the municipality over the last two months. During the same period, outbreaks were reported in the areas of Kampala, Wakiso, Jinja, Lyantonde, Lwengo, Mbale, Namutumba, Butebo and Pallisa.
