70-year-old Petwa Mukyala trekked a journey of 18 kilometers from Sakabusolo village in Mafubira Sub County to the RDC’s office in Jinja town on Friday afternoon. Mukyala told reporters that she has seven orphaned grandchildren under her care who she supports using the rental fees for her eight room
Jinja Hospital administration has issued a notice of eviction to all kiosk owners. The Hospital Director Dr Edward Nkurunziza says that the hospital received 3.5 billion Shillings from the finance ministry to construct staff quarters in the area. Dr Nkurunziza says that the construction is due to start next month.
According to the occupants, they have been under threats of eviction since 2016 and are worried that Mengo through Buganda Land Board-BLB may evict them anytime without due compensation despite occupying land for more than 30 years.
