Masimo Opiyo, the Executive Director of Comboni Samaritans, says teenage motherhood has overtime presented a huge challenge for the region spanning over three decades right from the early 90s during the height of the rebel Lord’s Resistance Army - LRA rebellion.
Although the district lacks clear figures on the prevalence of teenage mothers, leaders in Lwamaggwa, Kakyera, Ddwaniro, Kiziba, and Kyalungira Sub counties, say the problem is real.
Janet Nakisekka, the Masaka District Gender and Social Development Officer, says the unwillingness by the public to report the cases of teenage pregnancies is frustrating the enforcement of established laws against the vice.
