UNEB Chairperson Prof. Mary Okwakol says that the cases of examination malpractice in school were supported by headteachers. “In some schools, scouts were even bribed to allow teachers to give candidates assistance," Okwakol said.
According to the results, 63,123 candidates representing 64.7 secured 2 principal passes, which is required for university entry compared to 60,941 in 2017. A total of 83,536 candidates scored 1 principal pass and 2 subsidiary passes compared to 83,301 in 2017. These qualify for admission to other tertiary institutions.
Ali-Said Matan, the Executive Secretary, Lake Victoria Basin Commission, says among the rescue measures that have been put in place include the installation of 86 Aids to Navigation equipment in Lake Victoria in the three Partner States, enactment of Lake Victoria Transport Act 2007 and its Regulations namely Safety Regulation 2010 and Fees Regulation 2010.
