President Yoweri Museveni has asked the clergy in Uganda to champion the cause of protecting the environment if future calamities are to be avoided. The presidents message was contained in a speech read for him by the State Minister for housing, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, at the celebrations to mark 50 years of St. Pauls Seminary Rushoroza in Kabale district.
URN visited Namugongo on Tuesday morning and found hundreds of cloth dealers along the road adjacent to the shrines. The vendors were selling bed-sheets, sweaters, dresses, shirts and t-shirts as well as shoes of all kind.
Long queues of people are also lining up to enter the palace. Security has been beefed up at in Fort Portal town and the palace. President Museveni will be the chief guest. A church service at St Johnâ€™s Cathedral will precede the celebrations.
