Agnes Namusiitwa, one of the regional coordinators of the Citizens Coalition for Electoral Democracy-CEDDU in Masaka, says the committee hardly interfaced with 50 people in Masaka.
Agnes Namusiitwa, the Kakuuto Sub County Female Councilor to Kyotera district local government, says the proposal curtails principals of democracy, especially in scenarios where political parties fail to organize free primaries. Namusitwa, who is also Secretary of the Greater Masaka Civil Society advocacy group, is afraid that the bill will fuel dictatorial tendencies in political parties.
According to Oboth Oboth, those opposed to the death penalty, say it isnt deterrent since people still commit capital offenses well knowing that the punishment is death, adding that there are other forms of punishment, which are deterrent enough such as imprisonment for life among others.
