This afternoon, Shadow Internal Affairs Minister, Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi tasked officials from the Internal Affairs Ministry to explain Besigyes continued arrest without charge. According to Kivumbi, the arrest of Besigye portrays an attempt by the state to curtail his freedom of movement.
Kizza Besigye was picked up a few meters from his home on his way to Electoral Commission headquarters to pick declaration forms of the February 18th presidential elections. He was driven to Nagalama Divisional Police headquarters in Wakiso district, where he is being held.
Besigye was picked up together with General Mugisha Muntu, the FDC party presidential candidate from their party headquarters in Najjanankumbi as they were preparing to release results from their tally.
Besigye and Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago had gone to Naguru drive together with some of their supporters following allegations that government was running a parallel tallying center in one of the housing facilities in the area.
According to FDC National Chairman Wasswa Birigwa, both teams will coordinate with their respective agents to ensure that the voting, counting and tallying process at the polling stations is transparent and devoid of rigging.
