Magyezi was presiding over the inauguration of Hoima City on Thursday. Hoima, a strategic oil city, is one of the three cities that were fast-tracked by Parliament to start operations this financial year. The others are Soroti and Lira, whose elevation was initially set for July 2021.
Ogweng, whose arrest was sanctioned by Lt Col. Edith Nakalema, the Commandant of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit last week, is wanted for commissioning and supervising the handover of a contract for the management of Lira Coronation Park to Saving Grace Investment in disregard of procurement laws.
Assy Abireebe, Lira Municipality town clerk said the four councillors each received 350,000 shillings as allowance, but didn’t travel. He says that they may be forced to recover the money from their emoluments if they failed to comply with the directive.
