Universities were closed together with other congregational places, like schools and churches as one of the initial measures to control the spread of coronavirus disease-COVID-19. Although the closure was initially meant to last 32 days, it has since been extended to May 5.
In an internal memo, Nkumba University administration, says the staff were laid off as part of the efforts by management to upgrade and improve service delivery. “We strive to restructure the university setting so as to improve the quality of services we offer to our people across the country,” reads part of the memo. Some of the affected employees have reportedly started mobilizing students to oppose their sacking.
Vincent Kasigwa, the Nkumba–Bukolwa Village Publicity Secretary, says he notified Mpala Police Station immediately he received information about the murder.
