The District Health Officer-DHO Dr. Barker Kanyike instructed the ferry management to reduce the numbers of passengers from 200 to 80 after registering two cases on the ferry last week. The ferry makes two trips between Kiyindi and Kirongo on a daily basis.
Initially, the mattresses donated by Royikeims Uganda Limited were set aside to set-aside for the establishment of an isolation centre in the district. But following guidance from the District Health Officer Dr Elly Tumushabe, the district resolved that the mattresses be given to the general and maternity wards at the various health centres.
Dr. Baker Kanyike, the Buvuma District Health Officer-DHO confirms that immersion foot is common among people in the district, saying they recorded about 40 people turning up for treatment for a similar condition.
Tusiime recalls that in May, 2018, they assessed how the circumcision campaign was fairing at Nyankwanzi Health Center III and found that the surgeons of Baylor-Uganda were under performing prompting them to halt the project.
