Owera is alleged to have kidnapped Okot, the child of Ronald Odongo, a local trader in Lira town and took him to a woman at Akalo trading center in Kole district before he demanded for a ransom of shillings 20 million from the parents.
Alinaitwe, who is married to Silver Kuniihira, reportedly disappeared at the beginning of September and has never been seen again. Her family members made several radio announcements asking people with information of her whereabouts to show up in vain.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, says police have launched investigations into the matter. He says they have contacted all relatives of the missing children who have confirmed that they are not with them.
Initial reports indicated that unknown thugs disarmed the guard and later held the Depot Manager at gunpoint. Within a few minutes, the two were bundled into a waiting vehicle to an unknown destination. The thugs reportedly robbed 15 million Shillings from the depot.
Kenneth Tumuhamye, the Kantantorogo Sub County LC III chairperson, says the gunmen kidnapped Byarugaba on Wednesday night around 11:00PM at Kanyashande village in Kanyantorogo Sub County, near Ishasha River.
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate says that the children were released on Sunday evening after the family paid two, out of the four million Shillings, in agreement with the kidnappers. Maate says that though the victims are psychologically tortured, they were not physically harmed.
According to their mother Joselyn Ampeire, Niwagaba and Ayinamani were pursuing birds from eating their rice when two men donning replicas of the camouflage army Uniform and armed with an AK 47 rifles emerged from the nearby bush and held them at gunpoint. Ampeire says that without uttering a word, the gunmen disappeared with the minors.
Five of the suspects including Tumwebaze, Mugabo, Kananura, Kyarisiima, and
Imaniraguha were charged with the aggravated robbery and kidnap of three fish traders, which occurred on August 03rd 2018 near the Southern Gate Army Barracks in Queen Elizabeth national Park in Kanungu district.
The victims are Ronald Niwamanya aged 18 and Dan Tweheyo, 15 all residents of Nyabirehe village in Kihembe parish, Kanyantorogo Sub County, Kanungu district. Kanyantorogo borders DRC. They were kidnapped on Monday evening after crossing a few kilometres from Kanyantorogo into Democratic Republic of Congo-DRC to work in their father’s banana plantation with other workers.
Our reporter has since established the identities of some of the suspects in police custody. They include Adam Imaniraguha, the Proprietor of Kinkiizi Financial Services that trades in Foreign Currency, Yoweri Mugabo and Gad Mbonyebyombi.
