It warns if current trends continue, more than 340 million women and girls—an estimated 8 per cent of the world’s female population—will live in extreme poverty by 2030.
The report says that global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath, violent conflict, climate change, and the backlash against women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights are further exacerbating gender disparities.
Female Speakers representing parliaments and National Assemblies of states organized under the Inter-Parliamentary Union have called for increased economic empowerment of women and financial inclusion.
