The abattoir, sitting on 40 acres of land at Kyetume trading centre near the Uganda Railway Corporation inland container depot in Mukono, was set up in the 1960s. At the time, it housed the biggest slaughterhouse and a cattle market in the Central region.
Mukono General Hospital has at least 550 people who attend the Antiretroviral Therapy –ART clinic every week. However, many of them cannot travel from their homes, some from far away in the islands, because of the ban on both public and private transport, one of the measures are taken to control the spread of the novel coronavirus disease.
Samari Musenero, the Mukono District Health Secretary notes that there are several pubs and bars where open cigarette smoking is practiced. According to Musenero, they have teamed up with security to monitor and close all public places violating the ban on Shisa and public smoking.
Deo Biringiro, one of the Rwandans told URN they currently move to the nearby wards to ease themselves. He appeals to the authorities to construct for them a new latrine to improve sanitation in the community.
