The first session of the August House commenced on May 24th, 2021 under the late former Speaker of parliament, Jacob Oulanya L’Okori who succumbed to cancer on March 20th, 2022 after presiding over Parliament for only nine months.
On Tuesday, Kabarole district leaders including the LCV Chairperson Richard Rwabuhinga, Woman Member of Parliament Sylvia Rwabwogo and Fort Portal Municipality MP Alex Ruhunda met with the State Minister for Sports, Hamson Denis Obua and allocated 18.2 acres of land for a regional stadium.
Kizito has filed a suit the Civil Division of High Court against KCCA, Moses Atwine, the Directorate of Physical Planning KCCA and Joan Kyalimpa from the same directorate through his lawyer, Paulsen Nalubega and Co. Advocates.
The piece of land measuring 299 acres is situated at Namwambula village in Kiringente Sub County in Mpigi district. It was purchased by the Ministry at a cost of 13.5 billion Shillings from an Indian firm N. Shah and Company Limited.
As a result, some people have now run to court claiming ownership for some of the land hosting government installations. For instance, in Hapuuyo Town Council, Rose Mbabazi is claiming ownership of seven hectares of the 650 hectares of government land that was initially under the ownership of Tooro Kingdom.
Former Kira Municipality Mayor Mamerito Mugerwa told the Commission that those who were in charge of the land acquisition process were not transparent in their dealings with bonafide land owners in Namboole area. He said officials from Uganda Land Commission and the Ministry of Land wanted residents to surrender their land titles without compensation.
