“We must all jointly double efforts to water down the falsehoods, malicious and hateful words that are intended to divert us From our quest for justice and advocacy on key issues pertaining the Kingdom,” Kabaka Mutebi said in part.
Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi, looking fit as a fiddle, briefly stepped out of his car and walked to the gathering that stood excitedly along the Royal Mile road. The Kingdom has for the last eight years organized the event under different campaigns. The first campaign was to fight fistula and collect funds towards operation costs for women with the disease, the second campaign was to fight sickle cell disease and currently the fight against HIV/Aids.
Kabaka Mutebi says that the suggested reforms will mess up the cultural values and interests of the Kingdom and the subjects whose heritage is hinged on land as one of the key principles of their existence. He indicates that mooting for reforms that specifically target a land tenure system which is largely espoused in Buganda amounts to outright injustice aimed at weakening the Kingdom.
The money also covers compensation for land and accumulated rent arrears since 1967. In February 2019, President Yoweri Museveni held a meeting with the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II to review an earlier Memorandum of Understanding between the Kingdom and the Central Government.
