The criminals that include 101 males and 14 females were arrested during an impromptu operation conducted jointly by the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces-UPDF and the police and other sister security agencies on Tuesday night in various areas within Igayaza town council and Kikwaya trading center in Kikwaya sub county among other areas.
Rodgers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, says the operation followed numerous reports by the community about the widespread growth of marijuana in both villages.
He identified one of the prominent grower as Walter Kali who was arrested and subsequently jailed to 18 months’ imprisonment for planting, selling and consuming marijuana by the magistrate court in Kwania district.
