Like in other districts in Acholi, Lango, and parts of West Nile sub-regions, the government is undertaking the second phase of evicting balalo herdsmen following a directive by President Yoweri Museveni.
The State Minister for Foreign Affairs Henry Okello Oryem told URN that all land transactions between the balalo herdsmen and any parties in the district must be suspended until the committee verifies the type of transactions and land ownerships of all the herdsmen in the area.
Samuel Akera, the Attiak Sub County Chairperson says that the veterinary department has also been tasked to document the health status of all animals in grazing kraals within the area.
The intervention comes after the district is reportedly recording an upsurge in the cases of COVID-19 infections yet the residents are reluctant to observe the Standard Operating Procedures -SOPs and health ministry`s guidelines to contain the spread of the disease.
In Okidi North and East Villages in Attiak Sub County in Amuru district, more than 100 acres of Shea nut trees have been cut down by the charcoal dealers.
The team impounded over seven hundred bags of charcoal from the site and confiscated a number of rudimentary tools used by the dealers to cut and burn trees for charcoal burning and timber.
