In a unanimous verdict, a panel of three Constitutional Court Justices comprising Fredrick Egonda Ntende, Monica Mugenyi, and Christopher Gashirabake, dismissed the petition filed by lawyer Robert Rutaro, who argued that the officers shouldn't have been charged due to their status as agents of the state performing state duties.

NRM leaders in Kisoro recently requested president Museveni to Pardon Kayihura in recognition of his relentless service to the country. Kayihura hails from Kisoro district. In response to the request, President Museveni said he would speak to the military prosecution about the matter.
According to Human Rights Watch, the sanctions deny individuals entry into the US, allow the seizure of any of their property held in the country, and prevent them from entering into transactions with large number of banks and companies. The banks will be required to block any money sent to Kayihura.
