Peter Musinguzi has dropped out of the race for the the Bunyangabu District Local Council chairpersons seat. Musinguzi, the interim district chairperson since July this year, was nominated last week as an Independent candidate following his defeat in the NRM party primaries by his rival, James Ategeka.
Tom Mboijana, a resident of Harukoto in Fort Portal, doubts if people from Tooro will benefit from the new appointees. According to Mboijana, it is the friends and relatives of the ministers who will gain from their appointment.
According to the new motion, districts to be created effective 1st July 2016 include Kagadi, Kakumiro, Omoro and Rubanda. Those to come into effect by 1st July 2017 include Namisindwa, Pakwach, Butebo, Rukiga, Kyotera and Bunyangabu.
In a letter to the Ibanda district council dated 20th, July, 2015, the Minister of Local Government Adolf Mwesige said he had considered upgrading Ibanda town council into a municipality status after raising the required population of 100,000 people.
In his letter, Mwesige singled out the reported irregular award of the contract for the purchase of Lira LC V chairperson\'s vehicle and revenue management contract at Amach Market in Amach Sub County.

Government has blocked a proposal by Lira District leaders to reclaim the property of Lango Cultural Foundation. In his letter dated February 3, Local Government Minister Adolf Mwesige instructs Benon Rwanguha, the Lira Chief Administrative Officer, to suspend the decision pending investigations.

In Kabarole, the elevation of Bunyangabu County is receiving mixed reactions with some saying that the creation of the district is good for service delivery, while others argue that the split has left Kabarole a small district.
Last week, Mugabo wrote to Mwesige requesting him to intervene and save him from being censured by the district council. Mugaboâ€™s problems stem from a letter he wrote to members of the committee instituted to investigate corruption in the district.
Ignatius Besisira, the Member of Parliament for Buyaga East County in Kibaale district, has vowed to mobilize fellow legislators to debate and set a minimum qualification for lower Local Council leaders.
