Michael Rackara, a parent whose child has been deformed by the ailment at Aremo Wang-Lobo in Odek Sub-County says that the affected children who have become unproductive to their families should be paid a monthly stipend of 120,000 Shillings.

Acholi Leaders Task Gov’t on Cause of Mysterious Nodding Syndrome Kitgum District 2 1

The unexplained ailment has claimed more than 300 children and bedevilled over 3,000 others mostly in Omoro, Pader and Kitgum Districts. Currently, more than 175 children are receiving care for the nodding syndrome in Omoro, another 100 in Kitgum and more than 50 in Pader District. But the exact cause of the condition remains unknown.

Omoro Nodding Disease Care Centre Deserted Hope for Humans 4 2

Found in Akoyo village in Lamola parish in Odek Sub county, over 60km East of Gulu town, the center was established by Hope for Humans to support ailing children drawn from Acholi and Lango sub regions to receive palliative care, medical therapy, nutritious food supplements and special education among others.
