Sheikh Ramadhan Mulindwa, the Luwero District Kadhi has confirmed receiving the notification from the DEO and directed Imams and country sheikhs to handle the nomination of SMC members at the 34 Muslim founded schools in the districts.
They include Bright Morning Star Primary School, Sacred Heart Primary School, Magoma Church of Uganda Nursery School, Faith Nursery School-Lumpewe, Grace and Goodness Nursery School, Covenant Primary School-Bamusuuta, Hidden Treasure Primary School, Mifunya Primary School and Kyamutakasa Primary School. Others are Standard Christian High school Kiwoko and Semuto High School among others.
Florence Bbosa, the Luweero District Education Officer says that they have received several reports of extortion by Amos Lule James till when they alerted Police to trail and arrest him. Bbosa adds that Lule is not a district worker but instead was calling himself several names of known staff and titles to extort money from the schools.
Arnold Bagonza, a parent of Ntandi Primary School says the district was harsh in its decision. He says the SMCs members have been visiting the school and interacting with teachers and the parents frequently.
Mubaje says the operations were rushed affecting learners and parents who had already paid school fees. He adds that the Ministry of Education should instead monitor and remind schools to meet the standards before closing them.
In the past, preparing packed lunch for children was one of the key chores performed by parents. But the trend has shifted as incomes dwindle and households increasingly face stressed food insecurity conditions.
