Joy Kabarokore, one of the evictees, says that during the eviction, she was brutally beaten by the security personnel when she demanded to know why they were being evicted from the land, which they have occupied for years.
The accident occurred near Kyamukunjuki trading centre in Kitoba sub-county, when the victims who were riding on a motorcycle registration number UDW 280K bajaj were knocked by a Toyota wish, registration number UBK 654V which was heading to Hoima.
The Floods displaced thousands of people in Butiaba and Kigwera Sub counties and Butiaba town council in Buliisa district since March 2020. The floods submerged several homes destroying household property.
Simon Agaba Kinene, the Buliisa LCV Chairperson says that they have submitted several reports to the government through the office of the prime minister for intervention in vain.
Following the floods, the displaced victims sought shelter at Butiaba, Bugoigo and Wanseko Primary Schools among others, where they are still living up to date.
The victims now want the government to acquire land and have them resettled since the floods are not likely to end soon and could affect their livelihoods for many years.
The Deputy Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango says that if more people died during the protest as the Legislator alleges, then he should prove the allegations or even tell the public where the said people were buried than putting up false claims.
