Kidepo Valley National Park is one of the major tourist attractions in the country. The park has arguably the most diverse fauna including lions, leopards and bat-eared foxes, Black-backed and side-striped jackals, buffaloes, antelopes among others.
During celebrations, elders council together with Karamoja Cultural Association leadership discuss with local leaders on how to promote culture, unite for development among others. The celebrations attract business companies like Uganda Breweries Limited and development partners in areas of social- cultural development and all leaders in and outside the region.
Karamoja Cultural Day is an annual event commissioned in 2014 from Moroto district. The function brings together Ateker Cluster group of people from Teso, Turkana in Kenya, Nyangatom of Ethiopia and the Toposa of South Sudan.
The Secretary Finance, Richard Lopus said that the budget was not addressing the service needs in Kaabong town Council. He notes that most of the planned activities were already covered in the current financial year. Lopus described the budget as a duplicate of a work plan for the current financial year.
Rose Lilly Akello has bounced back to Parliament as Kaabong Woman MP after beating Christine Tubo Nakwang in the by-election held on Monday. Akello, who is on the ruling NRM party ticket, polled a total of 21,814 votes against Tubos 21,558 votes. Judith Adiaka Nalibe of the opposition FDC party trailed with 593 votes.
They include Tubo Nakwang Christine- who is contesting as an independent candidate, Rose Lilly Akello- a member of the ruling National Resistance Movement- NRM party and Judith Adiaka Nalibe- from the opposition Forum for Democratic Change FDC party.
The insects that cause Nagana in cattle and sleeping sickness in humans have since heavily multiplied in numbers in Sidok, Lolelia, Kapedo and Kathile sub counties. Other areas are Kamion, Kaabong East and Loyoro sub counties among others.
Forty-three suspected Karimojong warriors who fled disarmament a decade ago have voluntarily surrendered to the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) in Kaabong district. This brings the number of warriors surrendering to 59 after 16 others recently handed themselves in to the army.
The incident happened last week at Nameri Bridge, connecting Kaabong Town council to Kaabong East Sub County, some 256 kilometres north west of Moroto town. Five people including a driver and four passengers were swept away after the vehicle they were traveling in suddenly halted into a fast-flowing river at the bridge.
Joseph Midi, the District Chairperson Kaabong confirms the death saying the tragedy resulted from the vehicle engine that went off in the middle of the overspill, building weight on the car subsquently forcing it to submerge into the water.
Eleven suspected gunmen have been killed in Kaabong in the last four weeks as Uganda Peopleâ€™s Defence Forces-UPDF soldiers struggle to restore security in the district. The army also recovered three guns and unspecified rounds of live ammunition during gun battles in the West, North and East of Kaabong district.
