David Bahati, the Minister of State for Planning presented the request to Parliament's Budget Committee on Tuesday afternoon The bulk of which is for purchasing radio sets for all households in the country
The members of the Budget Committee were irritated by the allocation of the funds towards roads in the DRC when local roads in the country remain impassable. But Works minister Gen. Katumba Wamala said he hoped that the committee considers the project as a game changer in terms of trade and security.
The Ministry of Health will use 89 billion Shillings of the total approval to fund requirements for dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes Procurement of facemasks budgeted at 33 billion Shillings as part of the response to control the spread of the pandemic as the country eases the lockdown. Each mask will cost about 2,400 Shillings.
Oulanyah handed over the money to Nicholas Ogwang, Chief Administrative Officer – CAO from Lalogi Health IV. He explained that he handed over the money in respect of the directive given by the President and the guidance by Parliament.
According to Ajedra, part of the money, about 10 billion Shillings is to facilitate the Uganda Industrial Research Institute-UIRI to operationalize the machining, manufacturing and industrial skills training centre at Namanve. Ajedra said that UIRI urgently needs the funds because the facility has been completed.
