Uganda Radio Network (URN) visited the area and found that the majority of the affected people are sleeping under trees, in the nearby churches and schools. Others are being accommodated at Butiaba Market while others have erected makeshift structures.
John Karingo, a resident of Nsonzi landing site, says that the floods submerged his five houses and he currently stays with his family members in the neighbouring Church of Uganda-CoU building since he has nowhere to go. He wants the government to find land and resettle them.
While campaigning in the Bunyoro sub-region last month, President Museveni promised that government would avail land to have the victims resettled immediately.
More than 2000 homes have been submerged by floods from the rising water levels of Lake Albert in the four districts over the last nine months. Records show that up t0 38,000 people were displaced affected in Buliisa district alone, especially in the areas of Wanseko,
Katanga, Kawaibanda, Butiaba, Boma, Kigangaizi, Tugombili and Walukuba.
The accident occurred around 10am on Saturday when a Subaru Legacy registration Number SSD 812AW belonging to Clive Ninsiime, the Officer Charge of Oil and Gas attached to Kabaale International airport rammed into the four family members who were crossing the road.
