Already 828 suspected contacts have been placed under home quarantine as opposed to being in the designated institutional isolation centre at Gulu School of Health Sciences located in East Division of Gulu City.
The lab is expected to be equipped with modern technology for testing and diagnosing most pathogens in addition to providing safe, accurate and timely results of COVID-19 from the East African bloc.
Janet Oola, the District Health Officer told URN that the contacts are being quarantined at Pope Paul IV Secondary School, Anaka, a designated isolation centre for COVID-19 cases. She added that the district has designated 12 beds at Anaka Hospital IV for management of COVID-19 cases.
Michael Lakony, the Amuru LCV Chairperson told URN that the eight contacts have been added to six other suspected patients who were repatriated on April 17th from South Sudan to undergo the 14 days’ mandatory institutional quarantine at the school.
Another UPDF personnel attached to the UPDF 4th Division lamented they have been arresting and sometimes beating suspects defying lawful orders without any protective equipment exposing them and their families to risk.
Martin Ojara Mapenduzi, the District LC 5 Chairperson revealed that the suspects were tracked down by the COVID-19 Gulu Taskforce backed by police pursued the individuals and managed to confine them under strict conditions.
