Africa Could have 44 Million COVID-19 Infections This Year- WHO COVID-19 Pandemic 1

Africa has registered lower rates of infection compared to other countries elsewhere. This is mainly due to ongoing national lockdowns. Findings from the study show that lower transmission rates could mean prolonged outbreaks that might last for a few years.

According to WHO, in six days, some the number of confirmed cases in some African countries has risen by over 150 cases. Countries such as Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Niger and Guinea have seen reported exponential increases. On average the continent records 500 new cases of COVID-19 every day.

DRC Registers New Ebola Case COVID-19 1 Top story

Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, the WHO Africa Regional Director describes the reports of a new case as sad. "I am sad to hear of a new Ebola case in Northeastern DRC. We are on ground and will continue to work side by side with the ministry of health," Dr. Moeti said.

COVID-19 UPDATE- 22 Countries Remain Free from Deadly Virus 1 Top story

The countries that have reported no cases so far come mainly from two continents-Africa and Asia. In Africa, the unaffected countries include; South Sudan, Burundi, Botswana, Western Sahara, Sierre Leone, Guinea Bissau, Lesotho, Comoros, Malawi and Sao Tome ne Principe.
