Ssememwa Cultural Site is known for trenches which were used by the legendary great King Kateboha who reigned in the 14th century AD during the Bachwezi Dynasty in the Great Bunyoro Kitara Empire. The trenches were also used to guard against enemies from gaining entry into the King’s Palace which was located in the same area.

The Omukama says following the oil discovery in the region, there is need for teamwork between the kingdom and the MPs to lobby the government and guide the people if they are to benefit from the opportunities.
The marathon was flagged off on Saturday by the Omukama of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Solomon Gafabusa Iguru from his Palace Karuzika in Hoima town. The proceeds from the run will be used to purchase a blood analyser Machine for Kiryandongo Hospital.
The two cultural leaders discussed, capacity building in areas of oil and gas, skilling of youth, cultural preservation, environmental protection, how to improve agriculture and possible partnerships to develop cultural sites that can be a source of tourism attraction between the two cultural institutions.
Members of the Bagungu community have reportedly hatched a plan to form a new Kingdom as a breakaway from Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom. The plan is spearheaded by the Bagungu Cultural Revival Association headed by Norman Lukumu, the former Bunyoro Kingdom Prime Minister.
In his speech delivered by his Prime Minister, Andrew Kirungi Byakutaga, the Omukama who looked to be in a jovial mood urged the new cabinet to work hard to promote Unity and development in the kingdom.
The letter came a few days after King Iguru reshuffled his cabinet on October 20th, 2018, almost ten months after he dissolved the old cabinet. In the reshuffle, the Omukama retained Andrew Kirungi Byakutaga as the substantive Prime Minister and minister in charge oil and gas.
Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom has asked the central government to halt the operationalization of Kikuube district which is supposed to be curved out of Hoima district. Kikuube is one of the 25 new districts approved by parliament in 2015 and is set to be operational effective July 1, 2018. The new district supposed to take the boundaries of Buhaguzi County has of late received opposition from a section of politicians in Hoima district.
