The Court heard that on September 29th, 2022 while in the main building of Parliament in Kampala Central Division, the legislator unlawfully did grievous harm to Assistant Superintendent of Police, Alex Nsenge.
According to the results released by the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among who is the returning officer for the EALA elections, 495 MPs out of the total number of 529 eligible voters participated in the election.
Among however later added that when the counting ended, 478 MPs had participated in the election. According to the rules of procedure governing EALA elections, each MP is presented with a ballot paper containing the names of all those contesting for him or her to choose nine of the contestants.
Sources at the Caucus meeting also told Uganda Radio Network-URN that the MPs, who form majority in the Eleventh Parliament resolved to choose from only those Opposition candidates who have been backed by political parties under the Interparty Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD) while those contesting as Independents will tussle it out during the election.
Speaking to Uganda Radio Network- URN, Mpuuga said that the leading Opposition Political Party in Parliament owes other opposition political parties a duty not to nominate candidates immediately.
The Secretariat early this year advertised over 50 jobs attracting more than 15,000 applications. However there have been concerns especially from the Ugandan side over unequal distribution of the jobs among the six member states of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Rwanda and Burundi.
All six EAC member states have active cases of coronavirus, Kenya holding the highest number with172 cases, followed by Rwanda with 105, Uganda with 52, Tanzania with 24, Burundi with three and South Sudan with two cases.
