According to Sam Twineamazima, the Acting Savannah Regional Police spokesperson, officers from Bombo Police Station, together with Luwero Central Police Station (CPS), are actively looking into the case. He explains that Preliminary findings suggest that the deceased, who had come from Kampala early in the morning, had a quarrel with his wife, Nawaigo.
Michael Alfred Otim, a resident of Lacor Center in Patuda Ward, Bardege-Layibo Division reportedly made the first attempt to end his life last week after ingesting poison following a brawl with his wife.
The deceased is sixteen-year-old Fred Ssekabira, a day scholar whose lifeless body was found laying on the ground under a tree a few meters from his parent's home near Kasana playgrounds around 5 am on Sunday morning.
“Suicide is a major public health problem and every death by suicide is a tragedy. Unfortunately, suicide prevention is rarely a priority in national health programs,” said Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, WHO Regional Director for Africa.
The Ibanda District Police Commander, Emily Angomoku, says he was informed on Sunday evening that the suspect had hanged himself in police cells. “We have started investigations in the suicide as we wait for a postmortem report,” he said.
