Patrick Dennis Alibu, the Chairperson of the Uganda Allied Health Professionals’ Associations who doubles as Secretary-General of the Uganda Medical Laboratory Technology Association, said the 21 days elapsed this morning marking the start of their industrial action.
He told URN in an interview on Friday that resigning to a payless assignment at the district was after countless treks to the ministry of Health seeking that he and colleagues who hold Bachelors’ and masters’ degrees in medical laboratory related courses could be recognized and paid a salary that matches their qualifications.
Joyce Moriku Kaducu, the Minister of State for Primary Health Care congratulated the recovered patients for adhering to their treatment guidelines and tasked them to become agents of change in the community where they are going.
The association president John Paul Byagamy says that the laboratory professionals are the engine running all the surveillance and epidemiological studies at the time that the world is faced with the COVID-19 crisis. However, he adds, many of them are taking less pay despite being overly qualified.
