The government expanded the Tuberculosis ward at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital to a 74 bed-capacity COVID-19 treatment unit. But currently, the facility is treating an excess of 123 patients. The treatment facility admits at least five patients every day who are mainly evacuated from the districts of Pader, Gulu, Amuru, Omoro, Lamwo, Kitgum, Nwoya and Agago.
There are over 35 health staff deployed at treatment unit and institutional quarantine centre at Gulu College of Health Sciences. The health workers say some patients have been dodging or skipping COVID-19 treatment schedules while others some escape from the center before clinical decisions are made to discharge them.
Recently, section of private school teachers in Gulu municipality launched a social media campaign dubbed "open our schools or feed the teachers" appealing to teachers worst hit by Covid-19 to register for food aid.
According to Idiba, there`s need to partition the halls so as to reduce the risk of contact, spread of the disease to maximize the control of movement of the contacts under quarantine. He was speaking during the regional task force meeting held the 4th division barracks in Gulu town on Wednesday afternoon.
