According to the Presidential Elections Act, a person becomes a presidential candidate only after among others presenting signatures from 100 registered voters each from among two-thirds of all districts that make up Uganda. This translates to 9,800 signatures.
Human rights defenders and advocates have already started training for the assignment and have held a meeting at Africana Hotel in Kampala preparing lawyers to handle cases of violence against citizens as they arise.
To ensure compliance, the police must be notified for them to check out the venue before the meeting takes place. The police welcomed this proposal and said that it will help them enforce Covid-19 regulations.
